The film tells a story of Dracula, the owner of Hotel Transylvania, where the world's monsters can take a rest from human civilization. With no alternative, Dracula sadly flies after it in broad daylight despite being hurt by the sun. With maximum effort, Dracula manages to reach the plane and resorts to mind-controlling one of the pilots to apologize and tell Jonathan that he wants him to return to be with his daughter. Jonathan accepts Dracula's apology and Dracula manipulates the plane back to the airport.Later, Dracula returns Jonathan to Mavis, who apologizes and explains why he had to reject her and that she is his 'zing'. The plot is simple and easy to predict, however Vijay gives it the touch of brilliance and makes it interestingly engrossing. The story could've been humorously continued with Santhanam, as it was originally portrayed in the film.Secondly, if one can't understand echolocation then definitely the probability of enjoying the film is bleak. Vijay only spends close to five minutes to explain the concept to the audience verbally, whereas ideally it should've been demonstrated. The lack of understanding of the concept by majority of the audience leads to mockery of the same, which is quite disheartening.The best moments of the film neither happen in London nor Delhi, but in Shiva's village. In June 2011, Yash Raj Films released a statement announcing a new directorial venture by Yash Chopra, which would coincide with the 50th anniversary of his career in Bollywood. He also stated that the film was untitled as of that time, similar to his previous film Veer-Zaara which was named on the day of its submission to the Central Board of Film Certification. The producers had considered a variety of options but were reportedly not satisfied. Yash Chopra had later "nearly finalized" the title Jai, but retracted it afterwards. In June 2012,Initially, the film's principal photography was expected to commence in November 2011. However, it had to be delayed since Khan had wanted to take a break after his two releases in 2011, Ra.One and Don 2. Principal photography officially commenced on 9 January 2012 at the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, where a significant portion of the film was completed. the Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf. A key action sequence was filmed at Shepherd's Bush by closing down four streets in the area. The schedule was completed on March 27, 2012 at an indoor location in East London. It was later reported that the romantic scenes of the film were directed by Chopra's son Aditya Chopra, due to the difference in age between the latter and the lead actors.

Producer Akshay Kumar announced the film in 2010. When the promos of the movie were released at first, people heard actor Salman Khan's voice and assumed that he was playing a role in the movie or maybe he was the narrator. Later, the director Umesh Shukla went on to clarify that Salman's voice was only being used in the promos of the movie. The director was quoted telling IANS, "He (Salman) will not be narrating in the film. He has that notorious voice. My film is a light-hearted comedy and we need someone who can do justice to the visuals.Later, it was confirmed that Kumar's close friend Paresh Rawal who appeared in the original play Kishen vs Kanhaiya was playing the lead role with Akshay himself doing a cameo role in the movie. Shahrukh Khan was also expected to play a supporting role in the film, but later opted out of the project, and the role was given to Mithun Chakraborty. The filming was reported to have begun in January 2012. Also, director Prabhu Deva, who earlier directed Kumar's Rowdy Rathore, has been roped in to appear in a item-number along with Sonakshi Sinha. According to reports, producer Akshay Kumar will be doing a brief cameo in the film and will be seen riding a specially designed bike for the movie theme, worth Rs.1 million..The movie also marks the debut of popular Kannada actress Nidhi Subbaiah into Bollywood.
